Purchase of a Trawl Monitoring System, Installation of Radars and Computer Sets with Navigation Software

Beneficiary:
“Szkuner” Sp. z o.o.

Operation Title:
Purchase of a trawl monitoring system, installation of radars and computer sets with navigation software, modernization of electric switchboards for steering systems and stern cargo cranes, as well as renovation and equipment of crew quarters to improve safety, hygiene, and working conditions aboard the fishing vessels WŁA-310, WŁA-311, and WŁA-312.

Total Operation Value:
PLN 1,579,024.54

Granted Support Amount:
PLN 355,280.52

Objective of the Operation:
To enhance the competitiveness and profitability of enterprises in the fisheries sector, including the coastal fishing fleet, and to improve safety and working conditions.

Planned Outcomes of the Operation:

  • Trawl Monitoring System – Introduction of a trawl monitoring system with wireless sensors mounted on otter boards and the trawl itself, allowing for:

    • Monitoring of the trawl towing path to avoid entanglement with wrecks or seabed structures whose positions are known.

    • Assisting navigators to ensure the proper deployment of the trawl net, preventing it from entangling with the ship's propeller.

    • Informing the crew when the cod-end of the trawl is full, preventing net breakage and loss at sea.

    • Performing controlled turns during trawling, reducing the risk of trawl line breakage, which poses a significant threat to crew safety.

    • Monitoring the position and alignment of the otter boards, preventing deformation of the trawl geometry and alerting the crew to potential hazards during retrieval.

    • Visualizing the trawl's position and layout to warn nearby vessels, ensuring the safety of both their operation and others during trawling.

    • Protecting the seabed from degradation, benefiting benthic fauna and safeguarding fish species.

    • Reducing risks to other vessels, birds, seals, porpoises, and fish from abandoned trawl parts that can continue to trap and suffocate marine animals.

  • High-Sensitivity Radars – Installation of radars equipped with modern radar technologies (ARPA, AIS), improving navigation safety and enabling effective tracking of objects in the vicinity.

  • Specialized Industrial Computers with ARPA/AIS Software – Purchase of computers to support safe navigation by allowing the crew to effectively monitor navigational conditions.

  • Modernization of Electric Switchboards for Steering Systems and Stern Cargo Crane – Upgrading electrical equipment on board to improve safety and usability. Due to discontinued production of components, repeated repairs of old parts increase the risk of failure, short circuits, and electric shock.

  • Renovation and Equipment of Crew Quarters – Renovation and furnishing of crew living spaces to improve the quality of life on board, which is key to raising the standard of working conditions aboard fishing vessels.
